IT IS FINISHED
At the death of Jesus Christ on the cross “It is finished” He said, Read John 19:30, When He had received the drink, Jesus said, It is finished. With that, He bowed His head and gave up His Spirit.
Those who mocked Jesus in Matthew 27:40 said that if He was the Son of God, He should come down, from the cross. In verse 42, others said that if He was the King of Israel, He should come down from the cross. And, in verse 44, the robbers who were crucified with Him, heaped insults on Him. It was NOT possible for Him to come down or would not come down, because if He had, He would not have saved anyone except Himself.
Here again, on the cross, Jesus is tempted. In this temptation to come down from the cross, He would have had to use His divine power to ease His own pain as in the temptation in the desert, boost His own prestige by showing that He really was the Son of God and the King of Israel as in the temptation of the Temple, note this in your life and your Christian practice.
Besides having to endure the physical pain of the crucifixion and the spiritual pain of bearing all our sins, Jesus also had to endure these temptations which were so strong in this situation, when they said, “He can’t save Himself “. If He had, He could not have saved us.
Only the blood of the Messiah, Jesus, the our Passover Lamb, can cleanse us from our defilement and uncleanness to come into true fellowship with the living God.
See Isaiah 64:6, All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. Also read 1st Corinthians 5:7, Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast – as you really are. For Christ, our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed.
There were some amazing signs which took place at the time of Jesus’ death. One of them happened in the temple at Jerusalem, the curtain of the temple was torn in two.
The curtain of the temple KEPT OUT the people from the Holy of Holies. It was a symbol of the fact that sin kept out sinners from the presence of a Holy God, as we read in Isaiah 59:2, But your iniquities have separated you from your God ; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.
So, the torn curtain symbolizes the fact that Christ, through His death, opened the way to the presence of God.
Now that Christ has died and opened the way into the presence of God, we should draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of Faith.
Friends, Fathers and Mothers, I invite you to draw near to God in this way right now. Thank Him for the privilege of entering into His presence as a result of the DEATH OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS.
God bless you.
