Jesus Christ speaks about two different foundations, ROCK AND SAND in Matthew7:24–29, Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with it a great crash. When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at His teaching, because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Again, about two different roads, NARROW AND WIDE. Matthew 7:13, Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
Also, about the two different TREES. Matthew 7:17, Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
Jesus draws a stark comparison between the false values of the world and the true values which He is teaching from Matthew 7:13ff. He speaks about two different foundations, rock and sand.
The false values of the world-Why did you become Christian? “The sand” The true values of His kingdom-You come to Jesus Christ for salvation. "The rock"
The unique values that Christ taught are like a rock on which a person can build his life with total confidence; so whatever problems arise, he knows that he will be able to weather the storm.
Worldly values are all right so long as everything goes well, but in the real world things often go wrong, and eventually, of course, we will all have to face the final leveler, death
.
On the other hand, the person who has built his house on the rock of Christ’s truth teaching will never be overthrown by these catastrophes. Matthew 7:25, The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house ; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
In order to make the difference between His values and those of the world even clearer, Jesus uses three pairs of symbols. Each of these pairs is made up of opposites, like the rock and sound, the two gates, the two trees, and you a house of God or worldly values.
WORK TO DO
1. Who is the gate ?
See John 10:9, I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.
2. Who is the road?
See John 14:6, Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
May you be blessed in Jesus’ name.
