Always remember that even Satan and his demons can quote the Bible for their own ends. So we need to note the importance of using the whole of the Word of God, and not only some little bit that suits us, as Satan and his followers do
.
If the Holy Spirit is not present in our lives to direct us to the truth and the will of God, then all our knowledge is useless.
So when Jesus said that man ought to live by every word that comes from God’s mouth, He didn’t necessarily mean that we must memorize every verse of the Bible. Instead, He means that each of us should allow the Holy Spirit to lead us to a thorough understanding of the truth and God’s will as it is revealed in the Bible. Then we must apply this to every situation in our lives, that is to say that the correct use of the Bible is to know the truth and the will of God for my life.
Dear brother and sister in Christ, if you are going to defeat Satan and his agent’s temptations in your life, you ought never to separate the word of God from the Spirit of God. See Ephesians 6:17, Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Jesus forced Satan to retreat, not as Son of God, but because as Son of Man He resisted him with the Word of God and with the Spirit of God. We can, and should do the same in every temptation we face. Read James 4:7, Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. See also 1st Peter 5:8–9, Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
Resistance to Satan’s temptations is very important. When we know that we are being tempted and that Satan is prowling around us, roaring and trying to trap us with his subtle lies, it is very important to resist him. We must do this with the authority of God, using God’s Word and depending upon His Spirit. Matthew 5:10–12, Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. See also Matthew 4:10–11, Jesus said to him, Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only. Then the devil left Him, and angels came and attended Him.
Be blessed in God’s Spirit.
