Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb. Revelation 19:7–9, Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear. (Fine linen, stands for the righteous acts of the saints) Then the angels said to me, Write: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb! And he added, These are the true Words of God.
The exchange of engagement between a man and woman who love each other is a blessing in any culture or believe. It leads to wedding celebration, rich and often joyous.
The best of a mutual commitment must be there, e.g sense of belonging.
In ancient times, where marriage was look upon as more of an alliance for reasons of survival, practicality and the concept of romantic love remained a secondary issue, if considered at all.
Proverbs 18:22 says "He who finds wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord" There after, the groom would give the bride money or a valuable object such as a ring and wine was customarily shared to seal their covenant vows.
As from this time on they were considered married by the parents. But religiously they still have to do more before engage in sexual relations.
The two need to be baptized, then the groom is to go prepare a place for his bride, while the bride focused on her personnal preparations.
Now the bride expects her groom for the wedding that will unite them for ever. See the parable of the Ten Virgins in the book of Matthew 25:1–13, At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight the cry rang out: Here’s the bridegroom ! Come out to meet him! Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out. No, they replied, there may not be enough for both us and you. Indeed, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves. But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Later the others also came. Sir! Sir! They said, Open the door for us! But he replied, I tell you the truth, I don’t know you. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
According to this parable, ten virgins are waiting for the bridegroom along with the bride but Jesus divided them into two groups, wise and foolish. The ten virgins go to sleep because they did not know when the groom would arrive. (He was delaying, see verse 5)
We must be prepared for the Son of Man. (Jesus Christ) to come for the wedding because we need Him to survive.
Since the bridegroom represents Jesus the group of ten virgins mentioned in the parable would represent the visible christian church of today.
There are some in our churches who call themselves followers of Christ but are not truly so. At the time of the coming of Jesus Christ, this fact will become evident in their conduct.
The believers must be ready at all times for the second coming of the Son of Man.
Note, the relationship that a person has with Jesus Christ and the presence of His Holy Spirit is such a personal thing that, it is impossible for us to be saved through the experience of someone else. See Romans 8:9, You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. Also see Matthew 25:8–9, The foolish ones said to the wise, Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out. No, they replied, there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.
Be prepared for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
