The book of Titus says devote yourselves to doing what is good because knowing what is right and doing right are often two different challenges. John 14:15–16, “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.” Titus 3:8, “This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.”
The story of the good Samaritan in Luke 10:34 and Abraham in Genesis 13:9 are good examples to follow.
What make things happen in the life of the believers can be found in the life of those great people, mostly in the story of centurion’s servant will do us good understanding of what make things happen in regards to doing good with faith. This man was part of the soldiers, sent to Israel because the Romans had conquered the area called Palestine then and these soldiers were hated by most Jews, this man was an officer in the Roman army which ruled the Jews then. Luke 7:2-7, “There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with Him. “This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him. “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
This man cares for his servant and the Jewish people. He had built a synagogue for the Jews to worship the true God. The elders of the Jews even told Jesus that the Roman officer deserved to have Jesus heal his servant. Matthew 8:8, “The centurion replied,” Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.”
Remember what a conditional promise of God is. God tells what He wants from you, then what He will do.
A man said to Jesus what good thing must I do to get eternal life. Matthew 19:16, “Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
When someone chooses between serving God with all his / her strength and serving his/her wealth or something else, that means he serves 2 Masters opposite of Exodus 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before me.”
The New Testament says much about defending other people’s rights, but little defending our own, rather it emphasizes our responsibilities not our rights.
We are to love God and to love our neighbour. Matthew 22:37–40, Jesus replied, « Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: "Love your neighbour as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Be light in the Lord and live as children of light. Ephesians 5:8, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” The fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth. Paul in 1st Corinthians 10:33 said, « even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many. So that they be saved.”
Divine love is like an ocean. At the beach our children play in its waves. Who can swim, swim further into it, but there is so much more beyond us. The more you go, the more you discover its wonders. The love of Christ is like that, the more we know God, the more we discover how true it is. 1st John 4:8, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
