MY TIMES ARE IN YOUR HANDS.
(C.A.C. HYMN 173.)
Hebrews 13:8 tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Man changes from one day to the next, look up Malachi 3:6, God the Lord says, “I the Lord do not change.”
David trusted in God, saying, “My times are in your hands.” This means that every period of his life was controlled by God. By saying “my times” the Bible refers to all the events in a life, like the moment of birth, the moments for making decisions, the moment of death and everything else God controls all these events.
When you read newspapers or hear the news around you, it seems that the whole world is in confusion.
In spite of all the injustice and sadness, we know that absolute authority belong to God. Many people do not believe that God has absolute authority over their life and nature. They consult fortune-tellers, their Pastors or prophets as it fit and read horoscopes because all the time they want to know their « future”, such acts show lack of faith in God or at most a weak faith.
Read these verses from the Bible. Deuteronomy 18:10–11, “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.”
Look at these things one by one. Divination is claiming to foretell by supernatural power things which God in His wisdom has hidden from us.
Mediums try to contact the spirits in order to know the future. Many use « channeling” for the same purpose. Witches and those who use spells or charms or practice channeling seek by magical powers, evil spirits, demons, Satan, and the like, to enslave others through fear of the unknown. People today try to bring themselves luck or ward off evil spirits in this way. Christians should never have anything to do with these occult practices.
If God was so against the occult in Old Testament times, is it possible that His attitude is different nowadays? Remember Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8. According to Deuteronomy 18:12, all these are detestable to God.
Therefore, when something happens to us that we don’t understand we ought to trust that God is Sovereign and is in control of every situation and circumstances, however dark things may look.
Always give thanks to God that He is Sovereign and that your times are in His hands. And remember that the Bible says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.” (Jeremiah 17:7–10)
