GRATITUDE IN EVERYTHING.
CAC HYMN 70, 4–6.
4 Though nature’s strength decay,
And earth and hell withstand,
To Canaan’s bounds I urge my way
At His command.
The watery deep I pass,
With Jesus in my view;
And through the howling wilderness
My way pursue.
5 The God who reigns on high
The great archangels sing;
And, Holy, holy, holy cry,
Almighty King.
Who was and is the same,
And evermore shall be ;
Jehovah, Father, Great I AM,
We worship Thee.
6 The whole triumphant host
Give thanks to God on high;
Hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
They ever cry,
Hail, Abraham’s God, and mine.
I join the heavenly lays;
All might and majesty are Thine.
And endless praise.
Joel 2:26 “You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God”
Gratitude in everything, we walk by faith, not by sight. See 2nd Corinthians 5:7, it says, We live by faith, not by sight. Such positive faith never arise by accident.
Faith must be renewed constantly, nurtured by the inspire Word of God. See 1st Timothy 4: 6-9, it says, if you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance. Read also 2nd Timothy 2 : 15, It says, do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
In all activities, focus on God’s grace, do not preach yourself, but Jesus Christ the Lord. See 2nd Corinthians 4:5–6, for we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, let light shine out of darkness, made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
Colossians 3:16–17 says, let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual song with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. The true encouragement depends on understanding and believing God’s word. Thus everything we do aims to aims to uplift the spirit and instruct the mind. See 1st Corinthians 14:15 – 17, it says, so what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind, If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say Amen to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified.
We worship, when focusing full attention on God, for example in assemblies for worship.
The New Testament gives few rules, mainly ensuring good order so that all can grow spiritually by understanding what is said in the praise and in the teaching. See 1st Corinthians 14:14–17 and verses 26–33, for if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind. If you are praising God with your spirit, how can one who finds himself among those who do not understand say Amen to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? You may be giving thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church, If anyone speaks in a tongue, two or at the most three – should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quite in the church and speak to himself and God. Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. See also Hebrews 13:15–16, it says, Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess His name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
The Lord’s Prayer contains a description of God which is there to remind us that we are talking to God our Father.
Before we ask God for anything, we ought to remember WHO He is and WHAT He is like.
We are to remember that God is OUR FATHER and that He is a good Father to all. He is not a human parent. We must approach God with reverence that He is due.
Hallowed be your name
Your Kingdom come
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one etc.
Hallowed be your name, we are asking that God be honored. And you honor God when you do His will in obedience to His word. (1) When care for the sick and the poor. (2) Learn to love your neighbors. (3) Work hard to take care of your family’s needs. (4) Gratitude is worshipped and praised with a sincere heart.
Can you think of someone who has wronged you? Compare the gravity of the things you have done against God’s will with what that person has done to you. Since God has forgiven all your sins, are not, you also responsible to forgive that person the comparatively small wrong done to you? See Luke 6:32–36, it says, if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you
? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Matthew 18:21–35, the parable of the unmerciful servant can be used as well.
Still, we will be tempted in many ways. For this reason learn the lesson of gratitude and pray, “Lead us not into temptation” is to ask God to keep us from temptation which is too long and too strong for us to bear, while praying that we might be delivered from evil (the evil one) is to ask God to keep us from actually committing sin.
